Perimenopause is Wild: A Poem

 I thought I was. Then I wasn’t sure. Now I am …

perimenopause is wild

cycles expand, escape their bounds

now fast, then slow

doubled up and none

released from one way

into an untamed other

the joyful sorrows of change

bloom and grow

blessed death mother comes

fierce and tender with endings

bled out to fertilise a coming

inwardness

bringing heart-wisdom

and soul-nourishment

to feed the crone years

  1. it is indeed a wild ride!

you may find that your intuition grows quite startlingly prescient. it's quite a gift, really. whatever the mad culture says about older women, i have found the potential for fertility post-menopausally to be great, although of a different nature than the physical kind.

    welcome to the wise-women's world.
